The Manifestations of the Holy Spirit

And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. Isaiah 11:2

Holy Spirit, also called the Spirit of God, Spirit of Christ, Holy Ghost(Old English for spirit), the Spirit (capitalised s), is one spirit manifested in different operations. In Isaiah 11:2, his diverse operations are revealed. There He is called the spirit of wisdom, the spirit of understanding, the spirit of counsel, the spirit of might, the spirit of knowledge, and the spirit of the fear of the LORD. These are graces of the Spirit in the soul we are all to maximize as ones in whom the Spirit dwells. They are not special charismatic gifts of the Spirit. One can greatly fear God, but can’t be said to have the special gift of the fear of God. The grace of wisdom is not the same as the word of wisdom.
Having received the Holy Spirit, one has to press further into his several operations. Now, these are not listed as the gifts of the Spirit. These graces are the operations of the Spirit open to every Spirit-filled believer in their yielding to God’s Spirit in their lives. The determinant factor is their ability to yield. The further our walk in the Spirit, the more consecrated our life in the Spirit, and the more fully we yield to the Spirit the more functional these operations of the Holy Spirit become in our life.
