Exodus 32:26 Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD’s side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.
One tribe out of twelve stood on the lord’s side. The eleven others had gone a-whoring over a strange new god. Only the sons of Levi stood on the side of the God of their fathers.
Today, in a large part of the globe, Christianity has taking a different shape. The way of truth is being perverted. And I think this is a time for commitment to the course of Christ, not a time of bread and butter, money-driven, and money-oriented Christianity. It is time to stand for the God of the fathers: the faith which the apostles and the martyrs died for. God wants to know who are on his side!
The Bible says Moses stood at the gate of the camp. I will call it the gate of decision. It was time to decide. It was time to separate the sheep from the goat. And I can tell you this: a time will come when Jesus will come and look for those that are on his side, to separate the sheep from the goats and they who are on his side will be those on the right side.
Who is still on the Lord’s side now at this time of great moral decline? Who is on the Lord’s side? Not everyone likes him. Jesus is not beloved in the world. Jesus stated it very clearly: “The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil” John 7:7
Being on the Lord’s side is a choice. It is those who follow his ways, follow his teachings and keep his commandments that are on his side. Those who are willing to die for the faith rather than give it up are they that are on his side. Those who have given up the world to embrace the faith are they that are on his side. Not those who run with the god of this world, yet profess his name; not those who make a bargain with the world and compromise Christian standard for filthy lucre sake or to gain cheap popularity; not those who would offend God rather than man; not those who interpret scriptures according to their own hearts and create a Jesus of their own fancy; not those who would rather that Christ’s words be reviewed, edited, amended, or reinterpreted when it runs contrary to popular views; not those who would rather make broad the road Christ made narrow.
Who is on the Lord’s side? They are those who are called soldiers of the cross: who obey the Master, not as convenient, but as commanded.
Are you on the Lord’s side? Your siblings may not be on his side. Your parents may not be on his side. Your friends and colleagues may not be on his side. Even your pastor may not be on his side, yet you can be on his side. And in the words of the hymn writer, lift high his royal banner, it must not suffer loss…
1 Stand up, stand up for Jesus
ye soldiers of the cross;
lift high his royal banner,
it must not suffer loss.
From vict’ry unto vict’ry
his army he shall lead
till ev’ry foe is vanquished
and Christ is Lord indeed.
2 Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
the trumpet call obey;
forth to the mighty conflict
in this his glorious day.
Ye that are men now serve him
against unnumbered foes;
let courage rise with danger
and strength to strength oppose.
3 Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
stand in his strength alone;
the arm of flesh will fail you,
ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the gospel armor,
each piece put on with prayer;
where duty calls or danger,
be never wanting there.
4 Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
the strife will not be long;
this day the noise of battle,
the next, the victor’s song.
To him that overcometh
a crown of life shall be;
he with the King of glory
shall reign eternally ___George Duffield
