Jesus stated that true worshippers are to worship God in truth and in spirit. A worship which would rather be different from the already established system of worship represented by the temple in Jerusalem.
Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:21-24
The church is founded on a new testament. Matt 26:28; Acts 20:28; Heb 7:11-12; Heb 7:22; 8:6-9; 9:15; 10:9
Christ is the end of the Old Testament for right standing with God.
For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. Romans 10:2-4
It is by the word of Christ that the world will be judged. John 12:48
He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
A new law changes humans response to God
Hebrews 7:11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron? Hebrews 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
The change was planned not accidental
Ephesians 3:10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, 3:11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
The Old Testament is written for our learning not for our law Rom 15:4
Going back to the old covenant for study is helpful in understanding many things, but not for religious practice.
Going back to the old covenant obligates one to keep all its ordinance. Gal 5:1-3; James 2:10
Not properly keeping the law brings one into enmity with God. Jesus reconciled us back to God by fulfilling the law away. Eph 2:14-16; Rom 5:1-2
We must not assume that God accepts just anything we offer him because we like the thing. He has always reject worship he did not like. Gen 4:4-7; Isa1:13; Lev 10:1; Num 3:4
Jesus established a new and living way access to God. His Faith is the new and living way access to God. Rom 5:1-2; Eph 3:12; Jn 4:22-24
God is only worshipped through Christ: for he is the only high priest. Heb 7:11-12
Christians no longer offer animal, keep the Sabbath and new moon, offer oblation. In the change God has removed such things as are connected with the old covenant system of worship and kept singing, praying, lifting up holy hands and the breaking of bread as elements of worship.
